MPS Curriculum for WAYS Coaches

WAYS is partnering with Mass Premier Soccer (MPS) to provide MPS coaching materials for our coaches.

MPS has a Youtube channel of videos about MPS and coaching. In particular, take a look at MPS Coaches Corner with Nick Dunbar, which explains the MPS approach to player development.

A Message about MPS

Our organization has chosen to partner this season with Mass Premier Soccer (MPS) to assist in our player development and coach education.  MPS is dedicated to providing the highest quality of personal service to every partner soccer community and has become the most community active soccer program in New England since being established in 2001.  MPS is based in Waltham, MA with a full time staff of over 70 coaches that have been selected after an extensive recruitment process.  Not only must every MPS coach have a minimum coaching qualification but they are interviewed and selected based on their ability to communicate with both players and coaches.  With the majority of these coaches from overseas, they also bring an energy and enthusiasm for the game that we hope our players, coaches and parents will find infectious.

The MPS philosophy is that players should be allowed to progress to their level of ability within an age range rather than being limited or restricted to their school grade.  MPS Academy Director Nick Dunbar explains;

"The Mission of MPS is to enhance the soccer experience of players and coaches in Massachusetts. We provide our players the opportunity to develop as athletes and as people by fostering an identity of excellence. We strive to produce players who can compete at the highest level of soccer throughout the world."

This consistent philosophy of development is supported by an established and unique curriculum which provides the structure to their unique Player Development Model.  This model provides coaching to players as young as 3 years old through to the professional level and last year produced two players selected to the US National team having been in the MPS program since the age of 8.  MPS also provides an Inner City Initiative program which delivers free camps and clinics to players in underserved communities across the state including Worcester, Brockton, Lowell and Jamaica Plain.

In addition to player development, a major advantage to partnering with MPS is their support to all the coaches within our organization providing them with support materials and other communication resources.  MPS is the only program in the region with a full time technical department providing an online curriculum for volunteer coaches that has a complete season of age appropriate practices in PDF and video format.  These are available through our own web site with a unique username and password to our organization at no additional cost.  For more information on Mass Premier Soccer and their various programs and how your child can benefit from their organization please visit their web site at www.masspremiersoccer.com.

We hope you will join us in welcoming the MPS coaches and look forward to a great season!
