This program is a competitive travel team format. Grades 3 - 8 have a 10 week program: 5 home, 5 away games on Saturdays; Grades 9 - 12 have a 7 week program. Each team may have up to 2 practices per week. BAYS programs require a commitment to attending games and at least one practice.
No refunds for Grades 3 through 8 players after February 1st, unless for medical reasons. No refunds for Grades 9 through 12 players after April 1st, unless for medical reasons. No refunds for intramural players once the season starts.
Soccer is played in the rain! Wayland Soccer does not cancel due to rain. We will only cancel games due to unplayable field conditions, usually because it has rained heavily before the games, or if there is lightning. Please check our web site at www.waylandsoccer.org for up to date field availability.
No player will be allowed to play with any of the following: Jewelry, this means NO EARRINGS!, Hard beads in hair, metal pins or clasps in hair, watches, metal cleats, casts, splints, or braces. Shin pads are required for all age groups and mouth guards are strongly recommended. It is the decision of the referee when safety is concerned. His/her decision is final. Also, always be aware of the symptoms of concussion. WAYS takes concussion very seriously and your coaches have taken required training.
We communicate almost exclusively through e-mail. Please check the email accounts frequently. Also please update your email in the system should it change. Often the coaches may wish to send short videos or other coaching material to the players. These messages will always be on topic. Please add your players email if you approve of this communication channel to your player.
Volunteer your Time as a Coach
Coaches, assistant coaches and managers are always needed; no experience required but licensing is encouraged. For more information on licensing go to http://leagueathletics.com/Page.asp?n=42014&org=WAYLANDSOCCER.ORG . WAYS also offers coaching clinics, training manuals, books, DVDs, etc. for coaches. If you can’t attend practice and games, then you can help by being a manager and helping with team management such as scheduling, phone calls, etc. Get to know the beautiful game and grow your abilities and interest along with your kids!
Player Placement on Bays Teams
Players are placed on intramural (K, 1 and 2) teams based on their school grade. The goal is to make all teams as equal in strength as possible by spreading out the strong and weak players so a few are on each team. We do this by using player ratings provided by the coaches after each season.
Players are placed on the travel teams (Grades 3 through 12) according to their grade, age and skill level. The goal is to have kids play with kids of a similar ability. WAYS uses player evaluations by the coaches to assess skill levels of all players. Players registered by the deadline are given first consideration for a place on a team based on their skill level. Players not registered by the deadline may be slotted in to a team of the closest available skill level on a first come first served basis. If not enough players are registered to form a team, and/or if no parent volunteers to coach that team, then the players may not be able to play and registration fees will be returned. This rarely happens however.
